What is a Firewise Community?

Firewise Communities are neighborhoods or geographic areas that actively take steps to reduce wildfire risk using practices such as defensible space around homes, fire-resistant landscaping, community wildfire preparedness plans, and resident education.  Communities involved in this work can be recognized as a "Firewise USA" site by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) for their efforts to address wildfire preparation; essentially, it's a community that works together to make itself more resilient against wildfires.
